Game's On Party Plan

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL? Or maybe it’s “Take me out to the ball game” season. Whatever the sport – what ever the time of year, sports watching means feeding the watchers. That means brining pals together and serving plenty of great food, while not missing one single play.

Recipes for this party plan can be found in At Home Entertaining beginning on page 175 including: "The Wannstedt Crush", Game Day Crab Dip, Warm Sausage Dip Served in a Bread Bowl, Soft Shell Crab Po Boys with Roasted Red Pepper Aioli, Fiery Beef and Black Bean Chili, Grilled Harvest Best Veggies, Grandma's Blackberry Cake with Caramel Frosting

Enjoy kick-off by preparing most of this meal in advance. The dips can be prepared the day before and reheated during warm-ups. Make the chili the day before and reheat during the second quarter. Grill the veggies in the morning. Cool to room temperature, refrigerate and then bring to room temperature before serving. Sautee the crab just before the two minute warning. As half time arrives, place all of the food onto a buffet table and invite your guests to serve themselves. Save the cake for after the game to insure that everyone is a winner!

This party plan easily expands to feed a crowd. Simple double the recipes for the warm appys and prepare an extra batch of chili. The soft shell crab po boys are a real treat. Buy them when they are in season – but don’t hesitate to substitute with shrimp or clams! The veggies are a total show stopper and are enhanced with a drizzle of Balsamic vinegar and a crumble of Feta cheese. For a large crowd – ask a pal to bring an extra dessert or slice Grandma’s cake into smaller pieces.
