New House Warming Party

Friends are moving back to town and the gang wants to celebrate their arrival. Or, perhaps dear friends are moving out of town and an impromptu party is just what is needed. Get everyone together and assign each one a dish to bring. Everyone meets at the house at the appointed hour and wham – there is a seriously great party in the making and maybe a little unpacking in the process.

Recipes for this party plan can be found in At Home Entertaining beginning on page including: Pesto Torte with Sun Dried Tomatoes, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Salad, Baked Lemon Chicken, Cauliflower and Potatoes in Ginger Butter Sauce, Macaroni and White Cheddar Cheese Bake, Savory Asparagus Pudding, and Chocolate Spice Cake with Caramel Toffee Frosting.

The beauty of this party is that you encourage the guests to “bring a dish”. This is the perfect pot-luck party plan. All of the dishes can be prepared in advance and then heated just before serving. The appetizer torte and the dessert cake are easily prepared the day before. The secret is in the traveling. Make sure that you pack your party dish well!

Easily multiply the recipes in the party plan to serve a large crowd. You can also add dishes to extend the buffet. As you increase your guest list, suggest casserole dishes that blend with those that you already have planned.

Here are a few other great recipe ideas for a pot-luck party. Take a look at the recipe ideas for Chicken Chili with Veggies, and Veal and Spinach Filled Manicotti.

JoAnne Bassham says, "My daughter is having a new house warming party and I thought on the invitations I would ask everyone to send me a favorite recipe of theirs in advance so I could make a recipe book for her from everyone. If someone couldn't attend the party I thought this would be a good way to add their spice to their new home. Everyone loves new recipes and it also helps out " new cooks " with meal plans."

To puree veggies for creamy winter soups, nothing works better than an immersion blender. We recommend the Braun Speed Hand Blender and Chopper.
