Whole Wheat Baguettes

The original recipe for whole wheat rolls came with instructions for kneading, rising and baking in the oven. The bread machine has shortened the time considerably, making this bread a more regular addition to the weekly menu.

Recipe can be found in At Home in the Kitchen on page 238

Step-By-Step Illustrations
Remove the dough from the bread machine and cut into 3 pieces
Brush each loaf with beaten egg and cover to let rise
The bread is ready to bake after about 45 minutes

You can also shape this dough into rolls. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, stretch into a rectangle and cut into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet. Continue with the recipe reducing the cooking time if needed.

Whole wheat bread is a favorite to use in the recipe for Thick Cinnamon French Toast.

Cindy G. says, "I love to make these rolls for a dinner party. To serve, I place the 3 tall loaves in a vase and place it on the table with rounds of flavored butters."
